Socalled & Mark Kovnatskiy

In the famous novel in verse "Eugene Onegin" by the great Russian poet A.S. Pushkin there is a phrase "No two men were less the same, Like stone and water, ice and flame". This phrase perfectly describes the duo of the Canadian multiinstrumentalist, composer, rapper and singer Joshua "Socalled" Dolgin and the violinist and composer Mark Kovnatskiy based in Germany.

Joshua Dolgin is known as one of the leading performers of the new wave of Yiddish music, known for his eclectic mix of hip hop, klezmer, and other styles such as drum & bass and folk music. He is also a bandleader of his own project „Socalled" and a contributor to projects such as Klezmer Madness and Abraham Inc., he also created the musical "The Season".

In turn, Mark Kovnatskiy is rather known as an adherent of the traditional sound of klezmer music, carefully combining the manner of playing the old klezmorim with the influence of the Russian classical violin school, as well as the composer-creator of new klezmer melodies written in the traditional style of Eastern European Jewish music, performed by musicians (both klezmer and classical) around the world.

Two outstanding musicians will take you on a journey through the world of Yiddish music. During the world premiere of this duo, you will find a combination of old and new, traditional and modern, both songs and instrumental music.
